Threaded Assemblies
Threaded assemblies are combinations of fasteners with clips, washers or other
components to improve the assembly process. Threaded assemblies allow for more
rapid assembly of products. Other types of assemblies may include snap-fit or
press-fit assemblies. A threaded assembly is considered a detachable assembly,
where the components may be removed or replaced. A non-detachable assembly would
be a welded, adhesive, or riveted bond. Sems fasteners are a common type of
threaded assembly.

The type of threaded assemblies
used varies from product to product. Threaded assemblies are produced with
either thread-cutting or thread-forming screws, or with integrated threaded
inserts. Threaded assemblies may be plastic, galvanized steel, or other metals
coated with special adhesives or sealants to secure against vibration. Threaded
assemblies are common components in all kinds of manufacturing and production,
including fixed and movable joints and pipes for plumbing and pneumatic devices.
Galvanized threaded assemblies are components that are coated with a
rust-resistant zinc. The threaded components must be careful cleaned of all the
excess zinc to ensure the threads are not compromised on final assembly.
Externally threaded bolts or rods may be masked before the galvanizing process
to keep the zinc out of the threads. Galvanized nuts or other fasteners must be
used on galvanized threaded assemblies.
In addition to threaded assemblies, clip fasteners offer another method of rapid
assembly. Clip fasteners are specially-designed, one-piece fasteners that snap
into place and provide secure assembly, typically for panels. Clip fasteners are
specially shaped and use spring tension to assemble components together. They
are manufactured from spring steel for strength and may be removed and reused.
Specialty clip fasteners include spring catches, shelf and mounting supports,
and knob-to-shaft fasteners.
