Anchors
Anchors are used to attach an object to a support structure. Common anchor types include concrete anchors, floor anchors, expansion anchors, wall anchors, and specialty anchors. A concrete anchor is a screw-bolt system designed to attach a nonstructural object to a section of concrete. A floor anchor is designed to secure floor boards. A wall anchor is used in foundation repairs, sump pump installation, and basement waterproofing. An expansion anchor is easy to install and can be used in high shear-load applications. There are two types of expansion anchors: double expansion and single expansion. A double expansion anchor consists of a nut, a cone, and a tubular shield that is pre-assembled as a single unit. Double expansion anchors have expansion action at both ends of the shield and distribute the anchored load throughout the length of the shield. A single expansion anchor is used with machine screws or machine bolts in concrete, brick, or stone. A specialty anchor is designed to meet specific anchoring requirements. Other types of anchors are also available.

Anchors differ in terms of specifications, features, and applications. A concrete anchor can use a push or pull
attachment mechanism. An expansion anchor can resist side pressure or vibration from shear loads. With a double
expansion anchor, the fastened object can be unbolted, removed and refastened. With a single expansion anchor,
the screw or bolt can be removed from the anchor and, if necessary, replaced without materially affecting the
anchor’s holding power. A wall anchor can be used with concrete, concrete block, or sheetrock walls. A floor
anchor can be used with wooden or concrete floors. Anchors that use an anchor winch can pull or lift heavy
weights. Anchor bolts are used in brick masonry to make structural attachments and connections. Common anchor
bolt types include U-bolts , J-bolts , and eye bolts . Additional specifications for an anchor bolt or anchor winch
include vessel size, displacement, and anchor size.
